Our Story
Definition
Bexenjay [beks-en-jey]
noun
BEXENJAY BACKSTORY
Like the Blues Brothers, Bex and Jay are on a mission from God. No, really…they are. Well, more accurately, they are divinely-inspired beings from elsewhere who agreed to incarnate for a while on Earth to help kick some Dragon ass. But I digress - and you certainly don’t need to believe or care about any of that to roll with their tunes.
They’re first collaboration was in the local Detroit 4-piece band “Native Rage” circa-don’t remember. Bex provided her Grace Slick meets Karen Carpenter-on-acid vocals as the overdub to Jay’s subdued, weird-shade-of-blues guitar riffs. They bled over the local Detroit music scene for several years before bowing out to ride the white horse into self-imposed obscurity.
Now, having risen from countless spoons full of ash, they once again have bared their shame-laden heads to spew forth more notes from the brain jerky that resides in their skulls. While most people soften as they age and thus lead their melodies down a more mellow path, somehow these two have apparently morphed into louder, more pissed-off versions of their younger selves and it REALLY shows in their music. So don’t expect this combo to sound like a more mature duo of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. No, these ex-junk heads don’t play that.
So I guess what we’re trying to say is that Bexenjay won’t kowtow to any pity-listeners or faux-fans. They don’t plan on gratifying any rubber-necking wreck watchers breathlessly waiting for Bex and Jay’s next face plant. If you come, come ready for their music to kick you in the face as they jump on your back to lead you on a tour through their torment. Est-ce que tu capiche, mi amigo?
